Myles Nelson McKenzie Design….We design for the way you live & work!
Generally, there are three steps to our building design process. The following information is what you can expect for residential or commercial building design process from Myles Nelson McKenzie Design.
Our Design Process
1) Project Proposal & Development
Phase one includes an initial meeting with the client and or the project Builder at said property.
At that time, our clients usually have outline their desires for the project design. We will offer possible design suggestions.
We will review and examine all restrictions inherent to the project property with the local City and or County Planning & Building Departments.
2) Concept & Design Development
At this point we will develop a preliminary design concept plan based upon our discussion together with the client or the builder. We present it to the client or builder for further input. Upon reviewing the concept design plan, we will start to develop the design further in the design develop phase.
Once the design develop plans has been approved, we develop a set of presentation design plans. They will include floor plans along with a site plan and any relevant exterior elevations. Approximate room sizes and square footage will be presented as well.
Upon the client’s final approval of this phase, we move forward to the project construction documents.
3) Construction Documents
It’s time to start the construction documents!
Clients and or the builder can make minor changes during the construction documents phase.
Normally, at this point we develop construction documents enough so that any required civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural engineering can also start their process as well.
The completed construction plans will include the project notes, dimensions, details, and sections for the project construction plans.
In our design studio, as we complete the project construction plans, the design phase and the development of construction plan phase is now completed!
It’s time to take the construction plans and all other required documents into the local governing building department for review and to receive your building permit.
