For our clients in the province of Saskatchewan, which is a central province located in Canada with beautiful long day summers and harsh winter environment. A new modern farmhouse design was created by Myles Nelson McKenzie Design to complement to surrounding farming community.
Concept Modern Farm House Design
When we start a new project, a concept design is started. From that rough sketch or sketches, further design development is created for the design direction to meet the needs of our client. So, you can see our modern Canadian farmhouse design develop from rough sketch design into finishes construction plan elevations below.
Modern Farmhouse-Preliminary Design Development Sketches.
Farmhouse Design Features
The farmhouse design for this Saskatchewan property is 1480 square feet of livable space. Additionally, on the second floor, there is 876 square feet of loft space. For a total livable space of 2307 square feet.
On the first floor, the main entry is located on the side of the house. This is because, the property is a long narrow lot and is naturally protected by the surrounding trees.
Additionally, there is a master suite with a walk-in closet. A large size bath and additional bedroom with it’s own walk-in closet. There is a large walk in pantry, which is off to the side of the large Chef style kitchen.
Also inside the modern home design, both the kitchen and the large great room has a open vaulted ceiling. Additionally, these spaces are open to the second floor loft space. At the very end of the first floor is a rear property access and mudroom. This is adjacent to a large exterior deck.
The interior space of the great room and the kitchen space is open to the loft above and is accessible by a decorative metal spiral staircase.
On the second floor loft, the layout will be a design studio with plenty of storage space. Additionally, on the second floor loft is a powder room and a small elevator.
Exterior Elevation Plans
For the exterior of this modern farmhouse design, we are utilizing stained horizontal siding at both ends of the house. The side walls are standing seam metal roofing material in the color black. The metal standing seam material is a continuously roof down to the side of the residence as illustrated.
This modern Canadian farmhouse design has design elements that are similar to Icelandic or European cabin. See image reference examples below..
