A modern rowhouse design for our clients in Toronto Canada. Contemporary living in a small space. The small spaces of the rowhouses are always a challenge for designing a home to meet the owner’s needs.
The majority of cases for most row houses are to be drastically demoed to the building shell. And in cases because of rot and damaged materials, the row house needs to be completely demoed to the ground.
In such cases, we do our best to design a rowhouse that would complement what was previously there or additionally meet the local design standards.
Project Design Features
On the main floor of the new rowhouse design, the owners wished for their master suite to be adjacent to the rear yard patio with easy access for the summer/fall months of the year. Additionally, they wanted to be able to enjoy their rear patio and yard without going up a flight of stairs to their master suite after spending time there. The garage, entry hall, and storage closet are also located on the main floor.

2nd Floor Design Features
The kitchen was placed in the center of the upper second floor. Which anchors the great room/dining space and the office and rear covered patio space altogether.
A sprawling kitchen on the second floor was designed with appliances, and pantry storage, along with a large prep island and dining bar. The guest bedroom suite or second bedroom is located at the front of the residence.
Modern Rowhouse Front Elevation
For the new home presentation, the residence was designed in a modern contemporary home style. But we added elements of the classical rowhouse. Materials such as used red brick were added to enhance the modern presentation.

Modern Rowhouse Rear Elevation
As the owners wanted to enjoy the rear yard for most of the year, two rear-covered patios provide shelter for even the stormy days of the year. Large door systems open from the master suite and den, and nursery spaces to the covered patio and rear yard.
