A custom A-Frame home design for an existing coastal property in Maine. Myles Nelson McKenzie Design developed the new home design in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Property Features
We are excited to develop a new private residence design for our clients in the beautiful setting of Saint George, Maine. Nestled among the breathtaking natural scenery, the existing property is large and spacious, featuring a charming small cottage near the serene shoreline that invites tranquility and relaxation. With the impressive expanse of lush forest trees enveloping the coastal property, the new modern proposed A-Frame home design will enhance the aesthetic appeal and harmoniously complement the rugged coastal landscape.
This design will incorporate large windows to maximize the stunning views of the ocean. This will allow the indoors to blend seamlessly with the breathtaking outdoor surroundings while creating a cozy yet contemporary living environment that reflects the client’s lifestyles and aspirations. The thoughtful layout aims to optimize space, ensuring that each area of the home serves a purpose while promoting comfort and functionality for family gatherings and entertaining guests.

A selected area of the natural forest grove will be developed for the “off-the-grid” lifestyle. Providing an ideal setting for those who seek a deeper connection with nature and a sustainable way of living. A comprehensive solar farm will be installed to harness the sun’s power. Ensuring that residents have a reliable energy source throughout the year.
In addition, a meticulous water reclamation plan will be developed for this hidden area. Allowing for rainwater harvesting and wastewater recycling. This will significantly reduce reliance on any external water supply. This initiative will enhance the quality of life for inhabitants and promote environmental stewardship and resilience. It will benefit all year-round “off-the-grid” living for a harmonious existence with the surrounding ecosystem.

Home Features
A-frame homes are a recognizable home style. Genuine A-frame homes feature angled side rooflines from the ridge line to ground level. This design can be economically constructed. It is perfect for a vacation home in the mountains or by the lake. As a permanent residence, this triangular-shaped home style is generally enjoyed in colder climates where heavy snow can slide to the ground rather than amass on the rooftop.

Great Room/Kitchen/2nd Floor Loft/Deck
The new home’s main A-frame section includes a large great room with a vaulted two-story space. Thus creating an atmosphere of openness and inviting natural light to flood the interiors. The ground floor also has a spacious kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances and an elegant dining room. Perfect for hosting gatherings, the home also features exhilarating bedrooms and luxurious baths designed for relaxation and comfort.
Off of the main entry hall, there is a generously sized master suite wing that includes a large master bedroom. In the master bedroom, large skylights are positioned strategically, allowing one to gaze up at the stars while lying in bed. A contemporary floating metal fireplace is a stunning focal point. Opposite the fireplace is a sunken spa facing the breathtaking shoreline end of the master bedroom. Making it an ideal spot for tranquility and rejuvenation.
The expansive master bath features modern fixtures and finishes, complemented by two spacious closets that make organizing and storing belongings a breeze. This enhances the convenience of the master suite.
On the second floor, a vast open vaulted loft offers additional living space, providing guests with a cozy retreat. An exterior deck extends the living area outdoors, perfect for enjoying sunny afternoons or starlit evenings surrounded by nature.

Building Sections
Master bedroom suite building section design for the Saint George, Maine coastal property. High vaulted ceilings with large skylights and large window walls for the coastal views were developed for the master bedroom. The master bathroom has a sunken soaking tub, a large open shower, a commode room, and a vanity space.

Conceptual A-Frame Study Design
The original concept home study design beautifully reflects the A-frame home design the clients envisioned. The home design captures the essence of modern architecture while maintaining a cozy and inviting atmosphere. A few of the proposed residence’s design features include strategically placed roof skylights, which allow natural light to flood the interior spaces. Thus enhancing the overall aesthetic and creating a warm environment. The innovative pop-up balcony windows by Velux skylights for the loft level will also be utilized. Ensuring occupants can enjoy unobstructed outside views while enjoying the fresh air securely.
The roofing material will be Dark Charcoal Grey standing seam metal roofing, adding a sleek, contemporary touch and durability to the structure. This roofing choice, combined with a large amount of gable-end glazing, will further enhance the home’s spectacular coastal views. Creating a seamless connection between the indoor living spaces and the breathtaking landscape surrounding them.

Barn/Studio Design Features
The two-story old-style barn will be transformed into a spacious workshop. A drive-thru garage, along with additional covered open space on the ground level. This will create an inviting atmosphere for hobbies and crafts while providing ample storage for vehicles and equipment. The second-story loft studio will offer an exclusive and serene retreat for guests and family. From within the cozy confines of the second-story loft studio, there will be vast oceanfront views, allowing residents and visitors alike to bask in the beauty of nature.
These panoramic views can be enjoyed from each deck and the windows. Inviting the calming sounds of waves and the fresh ocean breeze inside, it is the perfect spot for relaxation and inspiration. In addition, the spacious decks will be ideal for gatherings, allowing family and friends to create lasting memories against the stunning ocean backdrop.
