Hillside Custom Home Features
Our clients wanted a modern take on the traditional Mediterranean home style, with clean lines and traditional details. We designed the exterior accordingly, with the central entry tower incorporating additional stuccoed columns reflecting a French Provencal design.
The Building Site
The building lot in Whittier has a steep slope but offers a breathtaking view with weeping willow trees and a beautiful valley beyond.
Due to the challenging hillside conditions, the new residence was designed with an oversized lower garage and guest suite on the first level. It also features a large, gently sloping driveway with beautiful Stackstone retaining walls adorned with Bougainvillea vines to add color and aesthetic appeal to the driveway.
Lower Floor
The residence’s lower level has a total inhabitable square footage of 1056 sf, including a guest suite, a work bath, and a changing room. A continuous staircase connects all floors, storage rooms, and an elevator for all three floors. The spacious garage can accommodate up to four cars, with two vehicles parked in tandem.
The Proposed Floor Plans
First Floor
The first and main floors feature a grand hall entry with double-radius staircases. Two large bedrooms with their own baths and walk-in closets. Grand hall access to kitchen number one and the traditional French Provencal-style living room.
We have created a spacious living area that combines an open loft-style secondary kitchen. A dining area and a great room space.
We have also included an extensive large corner door system that opens up for an indoor-outdoor living environment. Ideal for the Southern California lifestyle. This area provides access to a spacious open deck that leads to the infinity-edge, semi-circular pool, offering breathtaking views of the valley.
Additionally, we have included a large two-way wet bar with under-cabinet coolers. An accordion window system that opens to provide an 8-foot-wide opening. The exterior seating at the wet bar makes it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy your drinks.
The pool structure is designed to be elevated above the natural ground level by a sequence of multi-tiered terraces.
The inhabitable space of the first floor is 3294 sf.
Second Floor
The upper second floor of our Mediterranean custom home design features the main spacious master bedroom suite with traditional Mediterranean interior details. Additionally, the master suite has rear valley views. A large open deck wrought iron frame is covered with climbing bougainvillea vines, providing natural shade and a decorative color. A smaller deck and a Juliet balcony are also connected to the master bathroom.
Additionally, there is a second master suite designed with modern loft details. It is positioned to view breathtaking views of the valley. The second master suite features a balcony overlooking the pool and deck patio area below. It also has views of the stunning valley and beyond.
The inhabitable space of the second floor is 2547 SF.
