The city of Paradise, California, was devastated by the “Camp Fire” wildfire in 2018. The devastation was widespread. Eighty-five people died in the wildfire, and tens of thousands were displaced in the city and the surrounding community area.
Paradise is a town in the Sierra Nevada foothills in Butte County, California. Which is situated above the northeastern Sacramento Valley, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes that emphasize its serene beauty. Residents of Paradise are notably resilient, having faced the challenges posed by natural disasters with an unwavering spirit. Many long-time residents are not only rebuilding their homes. Still, they are also passionately committed to revitalizing their community, driven to preserve the city’s natural allure and charm. Myles Nelson McKenzie Design was selected to create a new rustic mountain home design for our clients in Paradise, California. Ensuring that the new structure harmonizes with the stunning surroundings while reflecting the unique character of its inhabitants. The team’s innovative approach incorporates sustainable materials and modern design principles, all while paying homage to the region’s rich heritage.

The city of Paradise and the property owners of this particular lot are located on top of a large hill plateau with beautiful valley views. The surrounding forest has been burned out for the most part, but new growth is starting to come back slowly.
Proposed Home Design Paradise California
Per the design plan, the proposed home design spans 2374 square feet. It is envisioned as a charming mountain rustic ranch home. Perfect for a private residence amid the picturesque rural terrain and the community of Paradise, California.
It has three bedrooms and two one-half baths. The open kitchen and the large great room are adjacent to the front dining room space. The new home design for the proposed rustic mountain home was developed with front and rear porches. A double-sided large fireplace divides the rear porch and the great room.

Home Design-Exterior Elevations
Because of the new fire guidelines from the state of California and the city of Paradise, the proposed exterior materials had to be fire-resistant. So we used Hardy cement siding, metal frame windows and doors, and a two-hour-rated roof structure. Additionally, we incorporated a comprehensive sprinkler system throughout the building, ensuring that any potential fires are swiftly contained.
The landscaping was also carefully planned to include fire-retardant plants. Along with adequate spacing between vegetation and structures, to minimize the risk of wildfire spread. We aimed to create a safe and resilient environment for all occupants by exceeding the standard requirements.
