The clients for this particular project expressed a strong admiration for a small equestrian property located in Orange Acres, California. However, they believed that the residence required a comprehensive home remodel.
The original residence was constructed in the 1950s and exhibited a noticeably worn appearance. Our clients inquired about the possibilities for renovation. Asking whether the property could be updated within a feasible construction budget or if a complete new home remodel would be impractical. After engaging with the clients and carefully considering their needs, we proposed transforming the vintage 1950s mountain-style residence into an Italian-style ranch home.

At Myles Nelson McKenzie Design, we meticulously developed a new remodel plan. Adopting an Italian Ranch home style that would complement the rural character of the Orange Acres community.
Features of the Italian Ranch Home Remodel
The initial phase of the remodel involved demolishing the existing entryway, dining room, living room, and patio area. This demolition provided the space necessary for a new entry, a spacious great room, and an appropriately sized dining room. All of which satisfied the clients’ desires.
A new detached three-car garage was also designed during the same phase. Providing not only functionality but also enhancing the overall charm of the property. It was crafted in the same Italian ranch style as the residence. Featuring details that reflect a classic yet timeless design. The garage was carefully placed to match the property’s look in Orange Acres, California. Creating a cohesive look that complements the surrounding landscape. Spacious and versatile, this garage offers ample room for vehicles and serves as a perfect workspace for hobbies or storage, further elevating the property’s appeal and usability for its owners.
In the second phase, the development of stables for two horses and a horse corral was planned for a lower section of the property, which is strategically located to provide easy access to the riding trails. Additionally, the open-air stables aim to enhance the horses’ well-being while also providing a comfortable environment. The corral will be built to allow for safe training and exercise.
