Recently, a client asked for a modern, contemporary home design. The project is located in Malibu, California. Because of the narrow size of the initially proposed beach lot, the custom home will be located on two adjacent oceanfront lots.
When we start a new project at Myles Nelson McKenzie Design, whether it is a small home addition, a home remodel, or a large custom home design. We always start with a preliminary design sketch.
We then work towards creating the general building design concept from these preliminary ideas. It is based on our client’s requirements and the local governing agency’s guidelines.
In the project’s design development phase, we fine-tune the home design in every aspect for final design approval. Upon the approval of our client and the local governing agencies, we move to the final phase of construction plan development.
Design Features
Situated on the breathtaking beaches of Malibu, California, our contemporary and expansive home showcases an open floor plan design that embodies the essence of comfortable beach living.
With 5602 square feet of livable space on the main floor and a 1200 square foot subterranean garage. It offers the perfect blend of luxury and practicality. Providing the ideal space to revel in the beauty of the ocean views.
The expansive living areas are thoughtfully designed to maximize comfort and style, featuring high ceilings, large windows, and premium finishes.
Whether hosting guests or enjoying a quiet evening at home, this residence ensures an unparalleled living experience.
Subterranean Level
Main Floor Level
The ground level of the residence features a custom-designed home comprising three spacious bedrooms and two and a half elegantly appointed bathrooms. The expansive kitchen-dining area is ideal for hosting formal gatherings, while the open-concept great room provides ample space for relaxation and entertainment.
The awe-inspiring ocean views from the primary living spaces make it an idyllic setting for leisure and socializing with acquaintances and relatives.
The open-plan design seamlessly integrates the indoor and outdoor areas, facilitating effortless hospitality and repose. The gourmet kitchen’s top-of-the-line appliances and bespoke cabinetry cater to informal meals and elaborate soirées.
Furthermore, the master suite is a tranquil sanctuary, showcasing a spa-like bathroom and a secluded balcony with sweeping ocean panoramas.
Additional Main Floor Features
A desirable design feature is the large accordion-style glass door systems. Which are 10 feet high and have opening widths of 21 and 24 feet. These doors flood the living spaces with natural light and provide seamless access to the outdoor areas. Creating an expansive living environment. Complementing these doors, the interior ceiling height is 12 feet throughout the home, which adds to the sense of openness and sophistication. This impressive ceiling height enhances the spaciousness of every room. Making it perfect for large art installations and custom lighting designs. Additionally, the design allows for better air circulation, which can contribute to a more comfortable and energy-efficient living space.
The large covered deck expands the main floor, facing south and west. From this ample covered deck space, facing southwest, there is also a vast open deck space. That steps down to the oceanfront beach area. This open deck offers a stunning view of the coastline. Where the sound of waves crashing and the salty sea breeze create a tranquil atmosphere. The deck is perfect for hosting gatherings, enjoying sunsets, or simply relaxing with a book.
