This is a residential project by Myles Nelson McKenzie Design, showcasing a modern home suited for the Sonoran Desert lifestyle. It serves the cities of Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Tucson, blending the environment into the living space. Every design element is thoughtfully chosen to create a home that feels like a sanctuary in harmony with the landscape.
We emphasized the exterior design of the home, which is intended to embody the modern desert lifestyle. The façade features clean lines, natural materials, and large windows that invite ample sunlight while providing breathtaking views of the desert landscape. The choice of colors and textures complements the desert’s earthy tones, ensuring the home feels like a natural extension of the environment.
Additionally, the design incorporates sustainable practices that promote energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact. Native plant landscaping is designed to be minimal and strategic, using drought-tolerant plants suited for desert conditions. The Xeriscape landscape enhances the property’s beauty while being mindful of the ecosystem.
In essence, this project stands as a testament to modern home design that embraces both aesthetics and the practical needs of desert living, making it a unique and desirable place to call home.
Using the current lot size, we created a concept design plan that accommodates and aligns with clients’ needs and lifestyles. Traditionally, we create a home design for our clients on every project. The home concept design was a great starting point for developing the final design plan, as shown below.
Floor Plan
The residence encompasses 6,340 square feet, which is an ideal size for properties in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. Upon approaching the property, the driveway leads to the main front entrance as well as the three-car garage. The residence’s entrance features a prominent open truss roof that spans the front walkway.
The spacious entry hall, with a vaulted glass ceiling, provides access to the grand corridor. The design of this modern desert home includes a large great room adjacent to the dining area, complemented by a chef-style kitchen and a secondary kitchen. This ample space seamlessly connects to the outdoor living area via a large wall door system.
The full-length doors overlook a linear pool and an expansive outdoor patio, facilitating a harmonious indoor-outdoor living environment well-suited to the desert climate.
The property includes three bedrooms and three and one-half bathrooms. Additionally, an art gallery is located adjacent to the auxiliary bedrooms. The rear-facing great room is expansive, offering ample space for entertaining.
The master bedroom suite is remarkably spacious, with doors opening to a generous patio. The master bathroom features a private spa, serving as an ideal retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation.
